Scheduling your session

It is always best to have your newborn photo session scheduled during the last trimester of your pregnancy. Having advanced, approximate notice is important so that I can keep my workload manageable around your due date. I will be able to “pencil” you in on my calendar according to your due date and then ask that you contact me as soon as possible after baby’s arrival to firm up the date and time. I recommend sessions at 2 weeks or younger to best capture the newness, smallness and innocence of your brand-new miracle. Sometimes clients do not think of doing a newborn session until after baby arrives. There is just so much to think about during pregnancy! This is fine too and I will make every effort to accommodate you in my schedule. A $50 deposit is due at the time of booking.

The Day of Your Session

The session will take place in my studio in NW Oklahoma City. We are located off of N. May Ave. in between Britton Rd. and Hefner Rd. The day of your session is it best to dress the baby in loose clothing prior to the session. Upon getting to the studio I will ask you to leave the baby with nothing but the diaper. The studio is kept at a warm temperature to keep baby confortable and we will use a space heater in the photography area to make sure they are cozy. I ask that you dress light since it will be warm.

Make Time

The session time varies greatly. Every baby is unique and the baby is in charge. A newborn session cannot be rushed. For the best results, baby should be relaxed and content which can often take time. Baby may need to feed or may need a diaper change or perhaps a snuggle. Some babies sleep through the entire session. A session can take one hour or up to three hours. It is important to schedule accordingly.

Be Prepared

Try to have your nails neat because I often take photos with hands. I will help soothe your baby as necessary. Babies are very sensitive to the scent of mom which can often make them less relaxed and more anxious to feed again. Because of this it may be necessary to ask mom to step away from the immediate shooting area when individual photos are done. It is not unusual for baby to feed at some point during the session so please do not feel that it is an inconvenience. We want to keep baby happy and calm. Being patient and flexible are key. This is such a precious and fleeting time in life. It is my goal to create beautiful newborn portraits that you will cherish forever.

What to Bring?

There is just NOTHING more gorgeous than a baby’s skin. I keep it warm enough to make sure baby is comfortable enough to show it all off!! But, feel free to bring along a special blankie, outfit, a toy, stuffed animal, something that symbolizes you or perhaps a special outfit that has been handed down. Anything to make your session as unique as your baby!

Use my Prop Closet

I also have a prop closet with a lot of blankets, headbands, hats, and cute little outfits. You are more than welcome to use any of the items I have.

After the session

It will take me approximatly two weeks to have your proofs ready for you. The day of your session you will be asked to set up a viewing  and ordering appointment. I ask that you look thru the pricing guide and your walls in your house so that you can be prepared to order. I can’t wait to meet you and your little one!
